It’s not because they love the work so much that they couldn’t bear to stop. It’s usually because they fear the business can’t function without them and even though there are delegated tasks, there’s just never enough time in the day to breathe, let alone rest. Their employees take vacations. But they do not.
Vacations are a critical part of success. The idea of recreation – kicking back and letting the problems rest for a while – is one of the most consistent characteristics of successful entrepreneurs. I know several successful entrepreneurs who manage to take 8 weeks of real vacation time every year. They come back refreshed, rejuvenated and re-energized to tackle problems with speed and efficiency they never imagined possible.
As you begin thinking about your business plan for next year ask yourself this question, “am I building an asset like an entrepreneur or is this just a job with the worst boss ever?”
